Something great is happening in Chillicothe Ohio.
There is a movement growing among the average citizen that’s like one of those gully-washer storms that sweeps the streets and sidewalks clean.
Some may think that the average citizen is unconcerned, uninformed, uninvolved and unmoved. I see and hear the opposite. In fact, I believe that our “average” citizen is more than willing to be involved, and whatever you do, do not hold back the facts.
Two years ago when I finally came home from my active military duty I wanted to become more involved in our community. This led to getting my neighbors together for a Brewer Heights Neighborhood Watch Program. I wanted to know my neighborhood better. I also wanted to know my community better so I began attending City Council meetings. I wanted to gain a better understanding of how the local governmental decisions were made. Attending Council meetings seemed a good place to go. Back then usually less than 10 people were in attendance, and that included three media professionals.
Then the RedFlex Camera issue brought approximately 60 individuals to a City Council meeting. In that particular meeting a gentleman stated that had Council been reading the blogs they would have had a sense of the public opinion. The ground swell had been growing and it was evident but for one reason or another it wasn’t communicated. I realized that his comment was a wakeup call that the way people communicate has changed.
It is the same with the Carlisle Building.
Just wait until the local elections start up this fall!
If you have any internet savvy you understand words like Twitter, Face Book, My Space, Blogger, Blogspot, Instant Messenger which are just some of the links that are being used to communicate around the world. I will merely mention the aftermath of the elections in Iran.
Welcome to the 21st Century way of communicating convictions, events, facts, opinions, thoughts and values!
Now I don’t agree with everything I read and you won’t agree with everything I write. However, the freedom and ability to articulate our voice in public forum is powerful. Now is the time to hook up, link up and get with the times.
When we get our voices linked together in Chillicothe Ohio – THINK OF THE POSSIBILITIES!
